Transfer between islands:

International flights will get you on the island of Ngazidja (Grande Comore).
The other islands are accessible by plane or boat.
Some local airlines are connecting the 3 islands daily, but since they are small capacity aircrafts, it can be difficult to find a seat if last minute during high season. Local agencies will help you book your tickets. Here is a list of companies currently providing daily connection between the 3 islands:

  • AB Aviation
  • Inter-island air

Allow an average of 100-150 euros for a return ticket Ngazidja – Ndzouani, and a 35 minutes flight. And allow an average of 90 -100 Euros for a return ticket Ngazidja – Mwali and 25 minutes flight.

The islands can also be reached by boat at a much lower cost. Expect however an average of 3 to 5 hours to reach the island of Ndzouani from Ngazidja  and 2 to 3 hours to reach the island of Mwali which is  halfway. The round trip will cost you an average of 40-50 euros depending on your destination, in economy class.

Travel within the islands:

You can rent a vehicle with or without driver, however the rental network is fairly informal. The road network is poorly maintained in some areas, it is highly recommended to use an SUV type of vehicle or 4 × 4 for trips outside the capital.
The main roads are dotted with potholes. Traffic signs are nonexistent. The greatest caution is required for driving (especially at night).

You can also use the network of taxis within the cities, and the mini-van and minibus network to reach the major cities. Good to know: no taxi in Comoros possesses counter, the race cost will depend on your destination. For example, the average fare in a shared taxi within the capital boundaries id  250-300 fc which equals is € 0.50. To reach other major towns count 1, 2 or 3 € per head depending on the distance.
We advise you to combine collective taxi and car hiring with a driver for specific excursions.
